An Early Interventionist is a professional trained to work with young children with special needs in partnership with their families and a variety of community-based professionals. Under this partnership, an Early Interventionist prepares a developmental profile and helps to design and implement a program to address the child’s developmental needs and the family’s priorities.

- An understanding of typical and atypical infant and early childhood development and the development of individualized program plans.
- An understanding of available community supports and resources and how to support families in maximizing their informal and formal support systems.
